Traveling to Norway is an adventure all on its own. The country is stunning, untouched, and peaceful. When we stopped in Bergen, we just had to check out Mount Fløyen, one of the city's must-see spots.
My sister planned ahead and made sure we got to the bottom of the funicular station early. The line got long fast, so we would've been waiting a lot longer if we hadn't! The ride up is quick and steep, and we snagged a spot at the front of the car for the view—though honestly, any view would have been amazing!
At the top, you just have to stop and take it all in. The sweeping views are breathtaking, and I couldn't help but think about whether my ancestors ever took in this view before heading to America. Make sure to give yourself time to soak in the sight of Bergen below and the fjords in the distance.
There's plenty to see at the top of the mountain. My favorite was the troll garden, where you can find little creatures hidden among the children's playground. When we visited, it was a bit misty, and the fog made searching for trolls in the forest feel truly magical!
There are three goats living at the top, so be sure to say hi! We also loved checking out all the fresh herbs and veggies being grown for the café up there.
To get back down, you can either take the funicular or hike down, which takes about an hour. We decided to hike and felt like we were wandering through a magical forest with mist, babbling brooks, and lush greenery. As you get closer to the city, you wind through classic Bergen neighborhoods. Don't miss the slide on the way down—it brings out the kid in all of us!
While Mount Fløyen might be a typical tourist spot in Bergen, it's totally worth the trip to the top!
